Itinerary

Itinerary

10 days of photography across Iceland: from the volcanoes and basalt cliffs of Snæfellsnes to the ice caves and icebergs of Jökulsárlón, passing waterfalls like Skógafoss, Diamond Beach, the Golden Circle and Mount Vestrahorn. And every night, outings in search of the northern lights.

We welcome you on arrival at Keflavík International Airport (KEF) and take you to your hotel in Reykjavik (about 50 min), with time to unpack and recover from your trip.

Around 4:00 PM the whole group meets in the lobby: first introductions, a walk to get a feel for the city, and a welcome dinner to start the expedition off on the right foot.

Accommodation · Reykjavik — Centerhotel Laugavegur

After breakfast we head to the Snæfellsnes peninsula (approx. 3 h), known as "Iceland in miniature" for the variety of landscapes it packs into just a few kilometers.

First afternoon among rugged coasts: the basalt cliffs of Arnarstapi, the sea pinnacles of Lóndrangar rising from the Atlantic, and the photogenic black church of Búðir, set against the Búðahraun lava field.

Accommodation · Snæfellsnes — Stöð Guesthouse & Apartments

A full day to make the most of the peninsula, with the unmistakable Kirkjufell —the hat-shaped mountain— as the star alongside its waterfalls.

Snæfellsnes is also one of the best spots in the country for the northern lights, thanks to its clear skies and minimal light pollution.

Accommodation · Snæfellsnes — Stöð Guesthouse & Apartments

We open with a sunrise session at Kirkjufell before heading to the south coast (approx. 5 h of driving, with stops).

First stop at Kvernufoss, a hidden waterfall you can walk behind, and then the imposing Skógafoss, with its 60 m drop that you can photograph almost from its base.

As night falls, our first aurora hunt on the south of the island.

Accommodation · South coast — Hotel Kría

A day heading east, the farthest point of the trip.

Along the way we enter Vatnajökull National Park —glacier tongues, lava fields and black-sand beaches— and get a first taste of the glacial lagoons, saving the in-depth sessions for the next two days.

In the late afternoon we reach the Stokksnes peninsula, where Vestrahorn mountain (the "Batman mountain") offers one of Iceland's most iconic compositions, among black sand dunes and pools that mirror the sky.

We photograph until sunset and, with luck, the aurora is the finishing touch.

Accommodation · Höfn — Hotel Milk Factory

We make the most of being near Stokksnes for a sunrise session at Vestrahorn, with fresh light on the mountain's face.

Then we head west again, into the heart of Vatnajökull.

In the afternoon we reach the Jökulsárlón glacial lagoon, where icebergs calved from the glacier drift through a scene that changes by the minute.

At dusk we cross to Diamond Beach, where blocks of millennia-old ice shine on the volcanic sand like jewels.

At night, aurora hunting over Jökulsárlón or nearby Fjallsárlón.

Accommodation · Hali — Hali Country Hotel

A full day to photograph the area from our base in Hali, a stone's throw from the lagoon.

A sunrise session at Jökulsárlón or Diamond Beach and, for the rest of the day, glacier tongues, waterfalls and black-sand landscapes under the low, golden light typical of the Icelandic autumn, which lingers for much of the day.

We'll keep an eye out for possible northern lights.

Accommodation · Hali — Hali Country Hotel

We leave Jökulsárlón behind heading west and devote the morning to the Skaftafell Nature Reserve, within Vatnajökull: glacier tongues, serene lagoons, snowy peaks, waterfalls and rivers born from the ice, with spectacular compositions at every turn.

We continue toward Hvolsvöllur and, if the aurora appears, we'll look for a spot near the hotel to photograph it.

Accommodation · Hvolsvöllur — Hotel Selja

We tour the three jewels of the Golden Circle: the powerful Gullfoss waterfall; the Strokkur geyser, in the Geysir geothermal area, which erupts every few minutes up to 20 m high; and Þingvellir National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, where the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates pull apart and the Öxarárfoss waterfall is the finishing touch.

Return to Keflavík for the last group dinner.

Accommodation · Keflavík — Aurora Hotel Keflavik Airport

After breakfast, transfer to Keflavík International Airport for your return flight.

End of the trip… until next time!
