Today, we will travel to Tarangire National Park, where we will have the opportunity to enjoy our first game-drive.
In the dry summer months, desiccated baobabs are scattered across the landscape, their bare branches baked by the sun. The grass has withered as a result of the lack of rainfall, forcing the animals of the Tarangire National Park to congregate nervously around the only remaining water source: the Tarangire River.
Such is the scenario during one of the most exciting seasons in this park, where visitors will see prey and predators side by side.
Herds of up to 300 elephants prowl the dry parts of the river, digging wells to bring water to the surface. Huge boas climb trees and nest among the branches, scaring the more than 550 species of birds that inhabit the park.
The rare beisa oryx and Waller's gazelle graze in the savannah. Migratory animals such as wildebeest and zebra transit Tarangire during certain periods of the year, attracting resident tree lions and elusive leopards.
Highlights:
- A paradise for bird fanatics, with more than 550 recorded species.
- The dry summer months see the animals congregate along the Tarangire River, promising excellent sightings.
- A destination to visit in any season thanks to its permanent residents, such as herds of up to 300 elephants.

DAY 5 (09-20-24). KARATU - SERENGETI
Today, after breakfast, we will head out to the mythical Serengeti National Park.
Spread over 1.5 million hectares, the Serengeti National Park is known for its impressive wildlife population, including the "Big Five".
Its fame, however, is due to its role as the scene of the Great Migration. Every year, more than 1.5 million wildebeest, a good number of gazelles and a small number of zebras in search of greener pastures move from the Serengeti to the Masai Mara, eventually returning to their point of departure.
Not surprisingly, the crowded Serengeti plains offer some of the best safaris in Tanzania and those who visit the park in the right season enjoy incredible views of this natural phenomenon.
The Serengeti terrain is home to volcanic grasslands and vast plains interrupted by rocky outcrops, rivers, volcanoes and forests.
The park offers exceptional year-round sightings, a huge population of predators and a long list of bird species. Most of the action takes place near the rivers and watering holes, where the animals congregate.
Besides being home to countless crocodiles and hippos, the banks of these bodies of water are the perfect vantage point from which to witness the natural spectacle, be it a herd of elephants cooling off or lions and crocodiles competing for prey.
Highlights:
- Extending over 1.5 million hectares, the Serengeti is part of the Great Migration scenario.
- More than one million wildebeest move across the plains each year in search of better grazing areas.

Tanzania's Ngorongoro Crater has been part of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area (a UNESCO World Heritage Site) since 1973. In addition to fertile soil and thus abundant wildlife (including the "Big Five"), the crater is also the world's only intact volcanic caldera. Another interesting fact: many believe that, before erupting, Ngorongoro was higher than Kilimanjaro itself.
Located at 1,800 meters above sea level on the Ngorongoro plateau, this crater is covered with a diverse vegetation of forest on one slope and grassland on the other; the latter also covers its ground almost completely and is a known site for spotting leopards. The crater is densely populated by other species, including a thriving population of lions, endangered black rhinos, elephants and an impressive number of resident wildebeest estimated at 6,000. It is also possible to spot cheetahs, which visit Ngorongoro throughout the year.
