A trip that unites the best of all the landscapes of Northwest Argentina, Valles, Quebradas and Puna.

This is a photo tour in the middle of one of the most spectacular landscapes of Argentina. The idea of this Photographic Expedition is to perfect your photographic skills in a very changing geography, as well as the great diversity of wild animals.

The idea is to learn to capture movement and light as we go, mile by mile. Dazzling geoforms and herds of Vicuñas, some Llamas and populations of pink Flamingos (only in Spring and Summer).

Also meet and spend some time with the inhabitants of the Puna and document their traditions in the heights of the Andean Altiplano.

Day 1 : SALTA - CAFAYATE (26-4-21)

Today our adventure begins, leaving from Salta Capital towards Cafayate, the wine capital of the province, we will travel through the Quebrada de las Conchas along the scenic Route 68.

Day 4 | ANTOFAGASTA DE LA SIERRA o EL PEÑON - POMEZ STONE FIELD (29-4-21)

Today, an absolutely fascinating landscape is photographed, the field of pumice stone, a white labyrinth formed by the explosion of a volcano. The ashes crystallized immediately after the explosion and when they cooled they gave rise to this wonderful rock with special characteristics, the porous pumice stone. With time and the strong winds of the puna, the incredible sculptural forms we see today were formed.

At sunset we visit and photograph the white sand dune.

Total kilometers: 150 km.
Accommodation: Pucara Complex (Antofagasta de la Sierra).

Day 6 | ANTOFALLITA - ARIZARO SALT FLATS and ARITA CONE - TOLAR GRANDE (01-05-21)

When crossing the Slar de Arizaro we will be imitating the old muleteers who used to use this road in the 18th and 19th centuries, they were shepherds who guided animal caravans to Chile.

The word Arizaro means "Vulture Cemetery", and comes from that period when many animals perished when crossing the salt flats and became nutritious food for the local vultures.

The Cone of Arita, a black volcanic pyramid that mysteriously stands in the middle of the white Salar de Arizaro, will be one of the wonders of the day.

Total kilometers: 150 km.
Accommodation: Casa de Maria and Flavio.

Day 7 | TOLAR GRANDE (02-05-21)

In the morning we will visit the area of Los Colorados, near Tolar Grande.

The narrow valley offers different landscapes depending on the time of day you travel.

The surroundings of Tolar Grande also offer the opportunity for wonderful walks. The best of them is in the sand dunes in the middle of the desert. From the height of the dune he enjoys a 360 degree view over the whole area, from the sacred mountain Macon to the volcano Llullaillaco, where in 1999 at 6735 meters an Inca treasure was found including the frozen bodies of three Inca children in perfect condition given the cold and dry weather conditions at the top of the volcano.

In the afternoon we go out to the Ojos del Mar, wells of blue sea water where the silhouettes of the volcanoes are reflected with the afternoon light.

We will arrive in San Antonio de los Cobres 3 hours later, the capital of the Puna, the arrival point for many tourists from Salta.

After lunch we continue our journey along Route 40 towards the Salinas Grandes, a large white desert, and then descend the Cuesta de Lipan towards the picturesque village of Purmamarca against the hill of the 7 colours.

A ravine means "narrow pass between mountains" and it is named after a small town in the heart of it. There are 170 kilometers of winding roads, impressive landscapes of colorful hills, dusty villages, folklore, joyful ceremonies of ancient cultures and delicious local foods.

In the afternoon with the best light, we will arrive to the Mirador del Hornocal to take the best pictures of the multicolored hills as a closure of this 10 days photographic adventure.

Return to Purmamarca.
