PHOTOGRAPHIC SAFARI

NAMIBIA

Tour length: 16 days
Date:15-30 May, 2022
Small group

Namibia, for photographers, is one of Africa's best kept secrets. Lesser known and less visited than the parks of East and Southern Africa, Namibia's treasures remain more hidden, revealed to those seeking a truly different safari adventure.

Here, in the middle of one of the world's largest deserts, we find an amazing collection of hardy wildlife that has managed to adapt to its harsh environment.

However, this is also a land of astonishing beauty. From the high sand dunes, to the wide, dry rivers, from the jumbled rocky mountains to the secluded beaches, photographers will find Namibia profoundly appealing!

WHY VISIT NAMIBIA?

FOR ITS SURREAL LANDSCAPES

Fairytale forests like Quiver Tree Forest, a sand-covered mining ghost town in the middle of the desert, 350-metre-high red sand dunes, 700-year-old tree skeletons on a white clay plain: Namibia has some of the most surreal and photogenic landscapes on the planet, and we will visit them all!

FOR ITS UNSPOILT PLACES

Namibia is the fifth least populated country in the world. The latest census puts its population density at 2.56 people per square kilometre. By way of comparison, the Netherlands is the fifth most densely populated country in the world, with a whopping 407 people per square kilometre.

THROUGH THE NAMIB DESERT

Having endured arid or semi-arid conditions for some 55-80 million years, the Namib is considered the world's oldest desert. The Namib Naukluft National Park is the largest game park in Africa and the fourth largest in the world. The giant red sand dunes are the highest in the world, in some places rising more than 300 metres above the desert floor.

FOR ITS NIGHT SKY

In 2012 the Namib Rand Nature Reserve was selected by the International Dark Sky as an official dark sky reserve for its low light pollution and cloudless night skies. The dry desert air and low humidity create perfect conditions for stargazing and astrophotography.

FOR THEIR CONSERVATION

Namibia was the first African country to incorporate environmental protection into its constitution. Today, more than 43% of Namibia's land area is under conservation. This includes national parks and national reserves, commercial conservancies, community forests and private nature reserves. Wildlife is now seen as a method of land use, complementary to agriculture and livestock farming.

Namibia now has the largest black rhino and cheetah populations in the world, and is the only country with an expanding free-ranging lion population. Namibia's elephant population more than doubled between 1995 and 2008, from 7,500 to over 16,000.
