Yangon (also called Rangoon) is the main city of Burma/Myanmar and the economic center of the country. Located in the south, it was the national capital between the 18th century and the beginning of the 21st century, when the capital was transferred to Naypyidaw (2006). Yangon is the most populous city (more than five million people). Although it is several centuries old, it was during the British rule (mid-nineteenth century - 1948) when the city was designed urbanistically as we know it today, with straight and perpendicular streets, especially in the area called 'Downtown'.
Afterwards, we will enjoy a walk through the "Downtown", the oldest area of Yangon with the aim of admiring the buildings of the colonial era (19th century - 1948) when the city was the capital of the former British colony of Burma. Yangon, in fact, has the largest number of buildings from the colonial period in Southeast Asia. Besides, we will find, depending on the time, different markets.
Downtown's common denominator is the mixture of cultures and religions (Buddhists, Muslims, Hindus, etc.) that inhabit it.
THE SECRETARIAT office, The Secretariat (also called the Secretariat building) was the seat of the colonial government and the administrative center of British Burma; it is located in the center of Yangon (Burma) and has a special symbolism for the Burmese as it was also the place where the "father of independence", Aung San, and six members of his cabinet were assassinated in July 1947, in the final stretch of the process that would lead Myanmar to its independence.

It is also an ideal area to take pictures of the great stupa of Shwedagon Pagoda at sunset. Afterwards, we headed to see the great reclining Buddha of Chaukhtatgyi, one of the largest in the world.
