Disko Bay - Midnight Sun

GREENLAND

Price: Coming soon
Tour length: 7 days
Date: July 17-23, 2022

Ilulissat is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This fjord is one of the few glaciers through which the Greenland ice cap reaches the sea. Annually it generates more than 35 km3 of ice. The combination of huge ice floes, beautiful soft light and clear skies makes it a dramatic and impressive natural phenomenon.

After a long summer in which the sun never sets, it touches the horizon for the first time at the end of July, producing an incredible light over the bay and its icebergs. This is the perfect time to sail among these giants, capturing the Arctic night in all its glory.

We will explore the bay each evening, photographing icebergs, mountains and whales in the midnight sun, and occasionally stepping off the boat to photograph the beautiful coastline at key points.

Important information:

We recommend arriving in Copenhagen (CPH) one day earlier (16-07-22), as the flight from Copenhagen to Ilulissat the next day is an early flight.

Start Photo Tour (17-07-2022): Ilulissat(JAV) Airport.

End Photo Tour (23-07-2022): Ilulissat(JAV) Airport.

Our private boat
Day 1 (17-07-22) Ilulissat.

Upon arrival at Ilulissat airport (JAV), we will be picked up to take us to our hotel, check in, and rest a little of the trip.

A little later we will take a short walk through the village, before going to dinner.

Days 2 to 6. Disko Bay

During 4 of the 5 nights of the workshop, we will leave from the port of Ilulissat for several hours, starting in the late afternoon (normally around 11pm), to sail in search of incredible icebergs and be able to photograph them in perfect light conditions during sunset and sunrise, which are between half an hour and two hours apart at this time of year.

When the sun is up and we are all tired, we will go back to the hotel to rest.

In the late morning or early afternoon, we will get up to walk around the city of Ilulissat, which has many monuments, beautiful buildings and some interesting museums.

After dinner, we will take the boat again for another glorious photo session among the icebergs and other landscapes.

During our sessions there is a high probability of finding whales, which are particularly photogenic in the soft arctic light, and with beautiful mountains and icebergs as a backdrop.

In addition to photographing from the boat, we will photograph several locations on land, such as the Ilimanaq settlement, a village south of Ilulissat. We will also walk to the edge of the huge Kangia Fjord to see and photograph the giant icebergs floating in the bay.

Day 7 (07-23-22) End of the trip.

After breakfast, transfer to Ilulissat airport for your flight back to Copenhagen.
